203 HOMELESS KIDS in Duluth Minnesota School Doing What We Can To Help The Needs Of Others
Today's newspaper the Duluth News Tribune had an article on the number of homeless children in our Duluth schools. They range from preschool to grade 12. There are 203 children HOMELESS.
It is one thing to not have enough money to do everything we want, but imagine if you are a child and you are homeless.
Not only do you not have clothes like all the other kids to wear to school, but you do not have your own bed to sleep in. Do you have a stable family that is down on their luck or are you the teen that is living on the street for some reason.
I find it sad and heart breaking. I find it hard to stomach all the rush and hype that is out there. The big rush to do Christmas shopping. The news articles of the big sales, big shopping days on Thanksgiving. People standing in line on Thanksgiving rather than spending time at home with family and being just thankful. The standing in line to get that one big ticket item. Pushing and shoving. So much greed by the shoppers and so much greed by the big businesses.
Our city has a place that teenagers can go that are homeless. It is run by Lutheran Services and helps these teens to find a place to live. In the mean time they have a place to stay, a safe place with people who care. Today I emptied my bathroom of all the extra shampoos, razors, body lotions and tooth paste and brought to the church to give to these teens. It was just two small packages from two retired people but it is a start.
It is time for me to try and find more deals and dedicate myself to doing what I can for these homeless children.
I can just imagine how these kids must feel when the other children talk about all the gifts they will get. About their planned family trips to go sking or to Disney land.
That is all well if we can afford it but just maybe we can cut back just a little on our gifts and plans and donate money, food and gifts to the needy and the homeless.
Give to the Salvation Army buckets, watch for good deals on food and donate the extras to the food shelf, donate toys for children or just drop off some nice clean clothes to a homeless shelter.
Lets find out we can do to help others in our neighborhood and our city. But for the Grace of God I could be there.
Thanks for stopping by to read and please do all you can for those in need. Grace

Grace,
ReplyDeleteFor those of us who live out of town leave the Postal address to the church. So that we can send items via United States Post office.
I too do whatever I can.
My own son was one of the homeless teens a few years ago and now is finished with not only with college but 1.5 years of medical school. We did it so far one day at a time and I still find little bits to help others.
Visit us on GlossyMoney some day please and leave a comment.
