Nothing warms up a house and the tummy than home made cookies.
Today we are sharing the recipe from 1956 recipe book Cookies Galore
ORANGE CRISPIES
1 1/4 cups Post 40 % Bran Flakes
1 1/4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp Calumet Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp grated orange rind
1/2 cup butter or other shortening
1 cup Sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp milk
1tbsp orange juice
* Or use 1 1/4 cups Post Toasties or Grape Nut Flakes
Crush cereal. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift again. Add orange rind
to shortening and cream thoroughly. Add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.
Add egg and beat thoroughly. Then blend in milk and orange juice. Add flour mixture gradually,
blending well. Stir in cereal. Chill until firm enough to roll. Roll 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured
board. Cut with floured 2 1/2 inch cutter. Baked on greased baking sheet in hot oven ( 425 degree)
6 to 8 minutes. Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies.
Note if desired 1/2 cup dark corn syrup may be substituted for 1/2 cup of the sugar.
Increase flour to 1 1/2 cups and omit milk and orange juice.
