Freezer Cooking Stage 2.. Lets Make Spaghetti Sauce

Stage 2 of my Freezer Cooking is making Spaghetti Sauce. This recipe will feed 6 but since it is just the 2 of us I can stretch it to 3 meals

As I browned the ground beef hubby diced up 1/4 of an onion.

Once the ground beef was browned we spooned out the grease and added the onion to brown.
To this was added sugar, salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, basil and garlic.

Then comes the tomato products

Simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour and you are ready to eat.
Spoon over cooked Spaghetti, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese ( if desired)

Recipe
1 1/2 pounds of ground beef ( I used 85 percent)
1/4 of an onion
1/2 tsp of sugar
1/2 tsp of salt ( we are cutting down on salt)
1 tsp of pepper
1 1/2 tsp of oregano,
1 1/2 tsp of thyme
1 1/2 tsp of basil
1 tsp of garlic
1 16 oz can of tomato sauce
1 oz can of diced tomatoes
I love our Spaghetti sauce, better than any I have ever had in an Italian restaurant. In the freezer it goes for future meals.

Freezer Cooking Stage 3 Spaghetti With Meat Sauce plus What's For Dinner

Last night I knew I needed to deal with some more of the hamburger sitting in our refrigerator. I had picked up 6 pounds of ground beef on sale at Cub Foods to make some freezer meals. First came Stage 1 Chili ( fantastic I think), Stage 2 Our Souper Meatloaf and now for Stage 3 it is our recipe for Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. I first made Spaghetti as a new bride in 1966. I have slowly changed it by adding more spices. I have to say it just get better as time goes on. This recipe will feed 6 but since it is usually just the 2 of us I can stretch it to 2 meals and 1 lunch for us.

Okay back to last night. I had hubby divide the 3 pounds of hamburger into half. One half went into my kettle and the other half into the freezer for future use. We will reheat our Spaghetti Sauce tonight, boil some spaghetti and butter some good bakery bread. The remaining sauce will go into the freezer for another meal.

As I browned the ground beef

my sweet hubby chopped a 1/4 of an onion for me.

Once the ground beef was browned we spooned out the grease and added the onion to brown.

To this was added sugar, salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, basil and garlic.

After stirring all together we added 16 ozs of Tomato Sauce and 8 oz of diced tomatoes and 4 oz of water.

Simmer for about 45 minutes to an hour and you are ready to eat.

Spoon over cooked Spaghetti, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese ( if desired)

There are times I will add diced mushrooms and tomato paste.

Recipe
1 1/2 pounds of ground beef ( I used 85 percent)
1/4 of an onion
1/2 tsp of sugar
1/2 tsp of salt ( we are cutting down on salt)
1 tsp of pepper
1 1/2 tsp of oregano,
1 1/2 tsp of thyme
1 1/2 tsp of basil
1 tsp of garlic
1 16 oz can of tomato sauce
1 oz can of diced tomatoes
4 oz of water

I will be posting this recipe on the Internet at Monday's

Busy Packing And Eating From Pantry

We have a big move coming up end of the month. We are moving from HOT Texas to COLD Northern Minnesota. Can't wait to get there and see my son's and grandchildren often. As I pack a few boxes every day I am also trying to either eat up items in my pantry or giving away somethings that I have way to much of.
Last night was my fantastic ( I think ) Spaghetti Dinner http://couponloversunite.blogspot.com/search/label/Spaghetti%20Sauce and tonight it is Sloppy Joe's.
This is keeping me away from searching and buying some deals. Eat up and Use what I have is the mission.
What I have learned is maybe to not over buy and keep more of my money in my pocket. Deals are important but when you have a year's supply of something that is over doing it.
We have been working at trying to put more money into savings so we can pay for our move out of our pocket since we no longer use Credit Cards for anything.
Well back to packing..

Hope that you all have a wonderful 4Th of July and stop by again.

Spaghetti for Dinner Yummy

As much as I love to go out to eat there is no restaurant that can match dh and my home made Spaghetti Sauce. And you surely can not beat the price. We guess this batch cost about $6.00 for 4 servings. Last night we cooked up a batch of spaghetti sauce and boiled up some noodles and sat down to a fantastic dinner. Best of all being that there is only 2 of us we have another meal. Recipe is as follow. Let me know what you think if you try it out.

makes 4 servings ( lots of times I will double and freeze half of it.)

1 pound of ground beef cooked and then drained of excess fat. I will dice and brown part of an onion if I have it in the house

add to this

1/2 tsp of salt

1 tsp of pepper

1 tsp of oregano

1 tsp of basil

1 tsp of thyme

1 tsp of garlic

after mixing this all in I added 1 large jar of Ragu type Spaghetti sauce, 1 small can of tomato sauce and 1 can of diced tomatoes spiced with basil

Other times I have used 1 large can of Tomato sauce instead of the Ragu.
