6 Easy Ways To Save Money With Or Without Coupons

Most of us have a goal to save money this year. Saving money at the grocery store is one great way accomplish part of this.

Whether that extra money goes into the savings account, helps to pay down debt or like hubby and me just helps us stretch our dollars, cutting the grocery bill is where it is at.

With the current economy as it is more coupons are being used . When we use coupons properly and follow the following rules, we can cut our grocery bill sometimes up to 50 percent.

Here are 6 simple ways to start saving at the grocery stores this year:

1. Understand the Sale Cycle
Just about everything in a store will go on sale at some time, so why would you pay full price if you didn't have to?
The cycle can differ depending on where you live in the country. Sales can run every 6 to 8 weeks and up to 12 weeks in some parts of the country. For us to save the most, we need to watch for sales and only buy at the low price. A great example is cereal, regularly it can cost $4 or more for name brand cereals. When it goes on sale we can buy it $1.50 to $2 a box. You will have already saved 50% and we haven’t even used our coupon yet!

2. Make Price Book
Know what items you normally use and what is the lowest price you have seen them or bought them.

3. Stock up at the Sale Price
Since we know that items are only on sale every 6-12 weeks, its important to buy enough at the low price to get from one sale to the next.
For some products this may mean 1 or 2, and for others items we may have to stock up a little more .
How much will we need of that product? You need to know how many you think you will use in a week or a month time. Then multiply that amount by the cycle your stores are on. If your family eats one box of cereal a week and it goes on sale ever 6 weeks we need to stock up 6 to 7 boxes to get you by till the next sale.
You may not be able to stock up every thing at once but do what you can and soon your pantry will be stocked.

4. Use those Coupons
When you are shopping and see that great price, that is the time to use the coupon! You are allowed one coupon per item so that means if you want (5) boxes of cereal and have $1 off coupons you can use FIVE coupons!!
a. Buy the Sunday paper each week.
b. Ask friends and family for their unused coupon inserts. It can be unbelievable how many people do not use coupons.
c. Watch for tear pads or coupon booklets in the store. If it is a product that you use take a couple.
d. And watch for printable coupons. You can usually print them twice.
e. carry your coupons with you every time you leave the house. You never know when you will come across a sale that you did not know about.

5. Focus on your favorite stores
If you have (2) name brand stores and they are within a reasonable distance get to know them.
One may offer some items at a better price and the other better prices on other items.
Get to know your drug store some items are best to buy there. Why would you buy toothpaste at the grocery store when you can find it often at the drug store FREE or almost free with sales, register rewards and coupons.

6. Don't be loyal to one brand and know your unit price
If one brand of ketchup is on sale and you have a coupon why buy the other brand. How about using the store brand? Have you tasted it? Most time it is just as good as the name brand.
Figure out the unit price. One item may look like a better deal but by knowing the unit price we will know which item is the best deal.
This morning's news had a story on how some companies are not raising the prices but are lowering the quantity in the packages. Name brand orange juice, same price but maybe 4 to 6 ounces less in the package. Looks the same but is not. This has been going on for over 6 months. This is where our price book will come in handy. We know the price by ounce of what we use.

Remember we want to use our coupons when an item is on sale.
Stock up when on sale and soon we will have a nice looking pantry of food to use in our recipes.
Make our menu plan around our pantry and what is on sale that week.

Be flexible with your menu plan.. if ham is on sale that may be the time to buy a ham and make several recipes around it or freeze part of the ham to use in the future.

Thanks for stopping by.. lets keep saving together... and please remember never under estimate the value of a small amount of money.

Save Money On Groceries Or Throw Away Your Dollars Your Choice!!!

Today I was thinking of the many ways we can save money while at the grocery store or we may choose to let those pennies and dollars slip through our fingers. It is up to us to either shop smart or not.
I have come up with ten ways so far...
1. Make a menu plan for the week around the items you already have in the kitchen and those that are on sale at the store.
2.Sign up and USE a rewards card if your store offers them.
3.Clip Coupons and once again USE those coupons. There is many times I forget my coupons at home and need to buy that item while at the store.
4.Best to not buy items you know you will not eat even if on sale. Food thrown away because it has expired is throwing away your money.
5.Buy items when on sale... best to make a "price book " so you know what is the best price for the products you use and stock up when on sale if financially possible.
6.Stay away from the grocery store if hungry.
7.Compare unit price so that you are getting the best price per ounce. Some stores even have this information on the shelf price.
8.Buy the store brand if cheaper and it usually is.
9.Use up your left overs.. once again food thrown away is money thrown away.
10.Cut back on meat usage. An example we use in our home is to buy a three pound package of ground beef and divide into 4 meals.

Those are ten ways to save money at the store. I would love to hear of any other items you can think of .

Making A Price Book For Grocery Shopping

I have thought about starting a price book for the grocery stores to help us save money on groceries and home supplies. Most of the time I know what is a good buying price on some items but not on everything we may use on a regular basis.

Earlier this week I found a wonderful site on having an Organized Home. There is so much there to help us become organized in our home life.

Well back to the price book, tonight I went searching the site and she talks about the price book. It has everything we know about it, but still interesting read and maybe a kick in the back end to get me to start this price book. You can read about it at
http://organizedhome.com/kitchen-tips/make-price-book-save-money . This idea for the price book was first publicized by Amy Dacyczyn, author of Complete Tightwad Gazette.

There are many different methods for a price book. The most important thing is to find a method that will be used and convenient to use. Methods could be a large or small ring binder, a spiral notebook or a spread sheet. I feel it should be a method that is easy to take to the grocery store.

Here is an example from the Organized home site.

Next is to grab some of those last grocery receipts. There is all the information needed right there.

I plan to put this to work and look forward to knowing a good price when I see it.

Plan of action . 1. go to store and buy a small spiral notebook to carry in my purse. 2. Find my recent grocery receipts, record and get started.

How about you? Do you keep a price guide book? Would love to hear your ideas and answer.

Refunding To Add Money To Your Pocket

www.refundcents.com/index.asp?RefID=H9X
Want to add even more money back to your pocket. Then you need to refund. You buy a certain product or several products and you can get some of your money back.
You may see a product that says try me FREE... all you have to do is buy it, try it and send in the proper requirements and soon you have some $$ back in your pocket.
There is a great site on the Internet that I have been involved with off and on for over 20 years.

I have joined refundingcents again and there is so much there.

Michele gives you updates, there are chats going on where others share what they have found at the stores. There is a great link so you can find where a coupon was in case you have not had a chance to cut out your coupons yet for your binder or coupon box.

If you decide to join please go from the link at the right had side of my page. I will get credit for it.
Thanks for stopping by.... Grace

Garage Sales can Save You Money or even Make You Money

I love garage sales also know as yard sales, moving sales, rummage sales or tag sales. I have been a garage sale junkie for over 30 years. I have held them and I have been to thousands of them.
The main reason I go is to hunt for treasures to sell on eBay. I have sold on eBay for years. I read other blogs and see people complain of the cost to sell on eBay. Yes the costs have gone up but just think of it. When you put up something you want to sell it can possibly be viewed by people all over the United States or world wide. And of course you can also find things that may interest you from around the US. ( Just watch the shipping costs )
Of course we also love the thrift stores and that is a way we spend part of many days.
We deal in mainly books ( even owned a used book store in Minnesota for 12 + years) Those are some of my favorite memories. My store and my customers. I also am interested in vintage postcards, photos and other items of interest.
Well back to garage sales.. this is a great way to find treasures and even what you need for daily life. You can find clean Blue Jeans hardly worn, designer clothes and purses. dishes, furniture and of course the collectible.

First you need to find them. Look in your daily paper, check out Craigs list. Craigs list has a tab under items for sale for garage sales. Craigs list can be good and is free and sometimes the poster does not follow through with their sale and this can be a waste of time and gas. And then just driving around and looking for signs is a fun way.

Go early, the best things can go first but then you can sometimes get a better price later in the day or the second day.

Bring small bills and coins. No one wants your twenty dollar bill.

Do not be afraid to ask if they are open to a lower price. Last Saturday we stopped at a sale. It is hot in Texas and they have been there for a couple of hours already. They have about 8 nice cookbooks that I can sell on eBay, amazon and other sites I sell on. They have a price of $2.00 and $3.00 each. That is not a bad price considering they are fairly new, clean and hard covers but I need to buy at a better price to sell. I nicely ask are you open to offers. I can give you a dollar a piece for the hard covers and then offer a dollar for 2 or 3 soft cover cook books. They say yes. I am happy and so are they. They do not have to bring these cook books back into the house and I have something to offer some one on the Internet who wants this cook book and even with the shipping cost may be the only way for them to buy.

Wear comfortable shoes , clothes and keep your purse close to you. Better yet wear a belly pack.

Bring your own bottle of water. Some sellers offer water but they want a dollar a bottle.

One thing I will buy is lemonade from some cute little kid. And if the glass is large I will give them an extra quarter as a tip and tell them I want that part to go into their savings bank. That excites them and their mother and makes me smile. Three or four smiles for a quarter is well worth it.

Of course you need to take gas into account so try to find neighborhood, block, multi-family or even city sales so that you can visit many sales in the same area. My hubby and I love to garage sale so this is entertainment to us and of course part of our business.

There are some things you do not want to buy at a garage sale. First thought is a used mattress. Others say shoes but I have found great shoes barely used for myself or to sell on eBay. Check items over really careful. Look for stains, tears and in books I also look through it. I do not want books underlined, highlighted or moldy.

If you looking for items for children be sure it is not a recalled item. You can go to check out http://www.recalls.gov/ for the most recent recalls issued.

If you are searching for furniture know your measurements and take a small tape measure with you. If something is electric ask to plug it in. If I am buying Cd's I bother to look inside to make sure CD is in there. People forget them in machines and do not check before selling.

So have fun stopping at garage sales and not only are you saving money, you are helping someone else declutter and you may even find some sweet treasure.

If you are in need of a cook book or whatever visit me at http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/turnabout01_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

Well this is some of my ideas and tips. Happy hunting and be safe

How We Throw Money Away

This morning as I am sipping that first cup of coffee my AOL has a story called Top Ways We Waste Our Money.
Here is the catch paragraph " How We Throw Money Away
As the recession continues to batter America, it's a perfect time to look at the money wasters in our life. So for the fourth time, we asked our readers what they think are the top ways to waste money. Click through our gallery and see if you agree with this list that we pulled from our message board. Are there worse ways you waste your money?"
Interesting to read different ideas. One change I will start doing is my shopping for carrots. No more baby carrots. They are so cute and so handy but yes very costly.
Here is the link, read for yourself.

HOW DO THEY DO IT

I keep reading different blogs of feeding the families of 4 or 5 for $1200 or LESS a YEAR using coupons, rebates and free items. I really do not how they can do it. I use coupons, buy on sale but still spent between going out to eat and groceries $400 to $600 a month and there is only 2 of us.
We do not go to expensive places to eat, sometimes have a coupon to reduce our bill or get a senior discount.
I am adding a couple of these blogs to my site so I watch their progress. I plan on asking if they eat out and if so much how much is that amount a month. That needs to be added into the total budget. I know if we cut out the eating out I could cut ours in half. But that would not be a $100 a month would be $250 a month maybe. As I watch their progress maybe I will get some insight from these bloggers and cut my expenses some. Hope you will watch with me their progress and my progress. If you would like to be added to my watch site I would love to hear from you.
