I love cookbooks. I love to buy and sell cookbooks. I love to read cookbooks and once in a while I even love to try out a new recipe.
Every time I go to an estate sale, thrift store, garage sale or auction one of the things I look for is cookbooks.
Recently at an auction I bought a box of cook books for $3.00. Now of course I knew that in this one box was 3 Barefoot Contessa and 1 Baking with Julia ( Childs) and that all were sellable. That $3.00 purchase brought in over $30.00 from eBay auctions. I had a group of Taste food magazines up for sale on eBay last week. Some sold some did not. They will be relisted tomorrow and hopefully will sell second time around.
At another recent auction I bought a large box full of small cooking recipe booklets. It is full I have not even started to count how many I have.
Some of the oldest ones are Recipe Book by the St. Paul Daily News Home Economics Department priced at 25 cents when new. I see no date but I am guessing the 1940's by the picture of the stove.
Then there is a copy of A Primer of Modern Cooking by the Home Institute The Duluth Herald. This is copyrighted 1934.
The third one is The War Time Cookbook 500 Recipes, Victory Substitutes and Economical Suggestions for Nutritious Wartime Meals. It is copyrighted 1942.
Another one is one I have had in the past. Aunt Sammys Radio Recipes Revised by the Bureau of Home Economics. Issued May 1931 for the price of 15 cents.
There has to be over 100 little recipe books. Cookies Galore, Kerr Home Canning Guide, 20 Famous Cranberry Dishes and even one for Famous Maple Recipes from the Vermont Hills.
Hours of reading and money to be made on eBay. Next time you a box of old recipe booklets take a peek you may just find a treasure. If you have a minute take a look and maybe even bookmark my eBay auctions and store items. You may find a treasure now or in the future.
Come back soon and see what else I found at same auction that is sellable on eBay and this box is not cookbooks.

MEAL PLANNING FOR THE WEEK 7/24/11
Hello every one, hope that your day is going great. We are having a much cooler day and I am spending it unpacking and looking out the window at our beautiful Lake Superior.
Sunday afternoon and time for me to plan our meals for the next week. With the move money is extra tight and just waiting to see when landlord will meet with us for the walk through so we can get our rent deposit back from old apartment. That money needs to go back into the savings account for upcoming bills. Will be happy when it is sitting there. There is always the fear she will see something wrong and not give it all to us. We also paid a non refundable pet deposit of $300. We moved in to that apartment the beginning of last August and our darling Spooky the cat passed away beginning of October. I shared this with her when giving noticed and asked her to consider returning some of the pet deposit. Time will tell. On top of all that we are waiting to see if we will be charged cancellation charge at the past cable company. We can not have a dish here since there is no balcony or patio to put it on. If we are not charged that fee we will be ahead $250. That would be a great help for sure.
So with all of this going on we will have a frugal meal week using what is in the house and buying no more groceries than necessary.
Tonight ( Sunday ) will be left over hamburger warmed up in brown gravy with a handful of mixed vegetables added. This will be served over mash potatoes
Monday we will go to the auction so will have tuna salad with toast when we return home
Tuesday tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches and potato chips
Wednesday Fried chicken, potato salad and beans
Thursday left over tuna salad since we will probably go to another auction that night
Friday Pizza night at home will use a frozen pizza that I bought last week
Saturday left overs
With this menu I will have to buy very little food. We need to pick up the fried chicken, potato salad and some beans. Other than that we should be fairly good for the week.
I will be sharing this over at Monday Menu.
Thanks for stopping by .. lets keep saving together Grace

Menu Plan Monday 7/4/11 4th of July Picnics and Easy Simple Meals
Time to plan out our menu for the next week. Monday will be the 4th of July and we will are going to a church picnic on a lake. We have only been going to this church for a few weeks and do not know any one real well except of course my step son and his family. Should be a good time to get to know some of them a little better. We are planning to move to another apartment by the end of the month and if financialy possible will move in about week early. I am busy packing up what I want to keep and parting with items I no longer want or need. We have had a garage sale and made over $300.
Sold some items that were vintage that I did not want to deal with $10.00
We have been buying items at garage sales and reselling at the weekly auction
Selling items on eBay that I bought at the auction ( book lots of cook books and art books ) Some are up for auction and will close tonight and some are fixed prices and will hopefully sell soon.
All and all we are busy and moving fast most days to pack, sort and make money that is needed. This weeks menu will be very simple and easy as we continue with packing for our move.
.
Monday ( picnic) Fun in the Sun
Tuesday Chili home made ( will make extra and freeze extra meals )
Wednesday Grilled Cheese sandwich and Tomato soup with crackers
Thursday Ham and Scalloped potatoes with vegetable
Friday Tuna Fish sandwiches and chips
Saturday Kickin It Up Penne Casserole with vegetables
Sunday ( simple night eat any left overs )
Hope that you all have a wonderful holiday weekend. I will be sharing this over at Menu Plan Monday

SUMMER TIME AND THE PASTA SALAD
Summer time is pasta time for me.. this week I was craving tuna salad. I always keep my tuna fish in the refridgerator so it is cold to start with and add a can of peas to cool at the same time.
This time I grabbed a half used box of pasta. Pasta a little larger than what I normally use but who cares. Use up what I have in the house and get it cooked and cooling off.
A few hours later we are eating pasta salad and all I need to add to my plate is a piece of buttered toast and I am a happy girl.
You can add what you like to a pasta salad. Some like onions, cheese or celery. Around here we are pretty plain salad. I would add the celery if it was in the house. No onions for me.
This small amount is all that is left to take a picture of. Hope that your week end is going nicely. We are getting ready to see what garage sales are open for the holiday weekend.

THE THRILL OF THE HUNT AT GARAGE SALES FINDING COSTUME JEWELRY AND OTHER TREASURES
This morning hubby and I took off to go to some garage sales. In hand is a my newspaper with address circled for today's search.
We are out looking for items to resell at the local weekly auction, at the antique mall in my glass case and on eBay or Amazon.
We skip the sales that mention clothing especially children's clothes and head for those that say household, jewelry, books and misc.
I especially like those sales in old houses that are put on by the family members selling off a relatives belongings. Some times you will find the best deals there.
First stop was that type of a sale. Grass is fairly high, you can see that the home is not lived in and we head to the garage. Not much there and then we are informed there are items in the house.
I buy 2 corningware casseroles with covers, church cook books and miscellanous glassware any where from 50 cents to $1.00 each.
Next off to the basement. There I find more small pretty glassware in blue and red and then I spot the jewelry in the corner. There are two men already bent over the boxes of jewelry looking for treasures. Once they are done it is my turn. For hardly anything I end up with a clear large rhinestone brooch, rhinestone clip on earings and miscellanous pieces of religious metals. Two of the pieces are marked silver and the other is gold filled. Add to my pile 2 large pictures from a pile in the corner.
I think I am done, but then I tell hubby I want one more look at the jewelry. By the time I get back to the basement some guy has bought the rest of the jewelry for $10.00.
I paid 50 cents for my few pieces of jewelry, and am happy with my purchases.
Next stop that morning is the auction house where we unload most of the items to our table. The sale is Monday night and it will be fun to see how much our items sell for.
I love garage sales and sadly we only have a few months of sales and then the snow will start. Until then I am having fun searching for treasures to resell. Above is a picture of the jewelry, every thing else is already at the auction house.
Hope that you all have fun on your searches at the garage sale and estate sales.
Thanks for stopping by I would love to hear about your garage sale finds in the comment area.. Grace

DECLUTTERING AND COLLECTING CASH Savings Challenge
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We had a great weekend with our 2 day garage sale. As I posted a few days ago we are busy selling STUFF to gather up money for our rental deposit and busy working harder than ever to sell items to gather cash.
Our yard sale was a success. We brought in over $300.00 cash of which $200.00 of it went into the savings account.
We had a good week on eBay and another $100.00 will be going into savings also.
Hope that you all had a great week and now I am off to the auction house to see how our items sell tonight. I brought in some costume jewelry, a vintage wagon that hubby found at a garage sale plus other STUFF.
Will give you an up date on how that went later. Our savings for rental deposit is now at $285.00 with another $100.00 on its way.
thanks for visiting. I will be sharing this over at Saved Quarter Challenge. Drop in to see how others are doing Grace
